OUR HISTORY
CMRJB WU Local 399 is one of the cornerstone locals of our Joint Board. We were originally organized the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
Since then we have grown and shrunk and grown again. While many other industrial plants in Evansville have closed and moved off shore we continue to overcome obstacles and move on.
In 1991 the ILGWU merged with the Amalgamated Clothing & Textile Workers Union and we became a stronger more vibrant union named appropriately, UNITE! As UNITE we organized all other TJ MAXX, Homegoods and Marshalls distribution centers in the United States and Canada.
While we continue to struggle with the economy and the same issues all workers face in the US and around the world we have our Union and even though we are in a “Right to Work” for less state we keep our Union membership over 90%. This is because we are an inclusive group of Sisters and Brothers and proud to be Union and proud of our fighting history.
